Having learned engineering skills whilst at Keele’s 8-track Clock-House studio (thanks in the main to Cliff Bradbury) I was resident sound engineer at Bass Clef through the 1980‘s and part time sound engineer at Wave Studios during that period, specialising in live recording of big band jazz.
The Wavefront studio equipment has been housed in many locations over the years but it’s function has always remained essentially the same. That is to record me and my mates and any other local musicians who arrive by chance means. Those who have experienced it know that I spread myself too thin and so projects can stretch into years!
We have a selection of quality instruments at a secret location (two break ins later!) including:
Grotrian Steinweg upright grand piano. It’s an early Steinway. Pianists will love it. I do.
Hammond Aurora drawbar organ with Leslie speaker.
Olympic jazz drums with Sabian and Zildjan cymbals.
As always the emphasis is on getting a good sound into the machine. Mostly recording live using an excellent range of professional standard microphones through the Soundcraft 24-8-2 desk.
We use Logic Audio on a Apple Macintosh platform with a MOTU Audio Interface.
